James Carter Matthews Sr.

James C. Matthews, 84, of Rock Hill, SC passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015. He was born in Charleston SC on Sept 4, 1930 to Inez Harris Matthews and Simeon Christopher Matthews. James received his education in Charleston SC and was 1950 Alumnus of Porter Military Academy. He served in the US Marine Corp during the Korean conflict from 1950 thru 1953. He married Carolyn Caveny of Rock Hill in 1953. They have five children. James Carter Matthews Jr. (Linda), Linde M. Dority, Bobby Matthews (Allison), Sally M. Greene (Jeff), Susie M. Monroe (Jeff). They have 10 grandchildren. Mary M. Vosburgh (Scott), Matthew Dority, Trey Matthews, Laura D. Phillips (Joe), Harrison Greene, Samuel Greene, Simeon Greene, Christopher Matthews, Caveny Monroe, Carter Monroe. Two Great Grandchildren. Noah Phillips and Isla Phillips. He was a member of Rotary International. He owned and operated Palmetto Brush Company in Rock Hill until he retired in 1993. He was an active member of Tirzah ARP church since he moved to Rock Hill in 1967. He served in many capacities and was honored as an Elder emeritus later in life. A visitation will be held from 1pm -2:45pm on Saturday. July 18, 2015 at Tirzah ARP Church. A funeral service will follow at 3pm.
