Mr. James Cobert McKenzie, 87, passed away April 7, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. Born in New Zion, SC on December 28, 1923 he was a WWII veteran and served with The Merrill's Marauders in China and Burma, India with the U.S. Army. He was the son of Rev. Marvin McKenzie and Prudence Floyd McKenzie. He moved to Rock Hill in 1950, and worked many years for J.P. Stevens before becoming a Millwright and retiring from Daniel's Construction. He was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Sumter. He was preceded in death by his wife Mozelle Langley McKenzie, a son Jamie McKenzie, and two grandchildren. Surviving are one son Don M. McKenzie of Rock Hill; one daughter Trudy Bradford and her husband Howard of York; one brother Joe McKenzie of New Zion; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. McKenzie will be held at 2:00pm Monday in the Chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Christopher and Jimmy McKenzie officiating. Interment will follow the service in Grandview Memorial Park - S. Cherry Road. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until the hour of service in Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home on Monday.
