James Thomas ("Tom") Oliphant

Charlotte, NC

Tom was employed by Paramount Carowinds as a Loss Prevention Director for 20 years and after was a contractor for 27 theme parks and traveled extensively until retirement. Tom was noted for this volunteer work for numerous organizations including the Pineville Fire and Rescue Department and served as Chief of Rescue and assistant Fire Rescue. He also served on the National Board of Americans with Disabilities and the South Carolina Board of Amusement Rides, The Charlotte Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers Board, The National Division of Homeland Security and a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for C.W Kidd for a number of years. He was honored to be presented THE ORDER OF THE LONG LEAF PINE AWARD of North Carolina, which is the highest award that can be given to citizens of North Carolina and Tom was a recipient of many other awards from both National and Local organizations. He was extremely proud of saying "not a bad life for a old boy from Gaffney". He never got over the loss of his daughter Stacie and unborn Grandson Zack and the love of his life Doris of 50 years and until death. He mourned every day. But was blessed with his caregiver Debra Johnson. There will be a graveside service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery Saturday at 11am. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be given to Pineville Fire and Rescue or to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department fund.
