James Stephenson

YORK - The Rev. James Stephenson, 81, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at Agape Assisted Living of York.

Rev. Stephenson was born on Oct. 10, 1931, in Monticello, Ark. He was a graduate of Arkansas A & M and Erskine Theological Seminary. Rev. Stephenson served churches in Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas, Florida, and North Carolina as a minister in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church in the United States. He was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and ministered in His church for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Opal Baston Stephenson. He was also predeceased by a newborn son.

Rev. Stephenson is survived by his children, James Thomas Stephenson Jr. (wife, Michelle), Rachel Stephenson Reynolds (husband, Steve) and Ruth Stephenson Sanders (husband, Charles). He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Rogers Memorial ARP Church, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.

Contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Agape Hospice of York.
