Beloved husband and father, James Philip Wilson, of Indian Land SC, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He was 77 yrs old.
Born in Orange, N.J., July 21, 1939, he was the youngest son of the late James Wilson and Margaretta Lewis Wilson. James served in the United States Army in 1962 and in the Army reserves from 1963-1968. He served as a fireman for the Newark fire department for 25 years where he retired as Battalion Chief in 1988; and, worked the next 12 years as a New Jersey State Fire Inspector. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church; and, a very active member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.
Prior to living in Indian Land, SC, James lived in Statesville, NC for 15 years and New Jersey for 59 years. Direct family members left to cherish his memory are his wife, Doris (Dill) Wilson of Indian Land SC, 2 daughters, Christine Collins of Charlotte NC, Barbara Manning of Washington, NC and one brother, Richard Wilson (Patricia his wife) of Marietta, Ga. He is further survived by four grandchildren, Conner Collins, Shane Collins, Abigail Manning, and Meghan Manning.
The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Dr., Fort Mill, SC 29708. The funeral service will follow the visitation in the Chapel at the funeral home at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital or the New Jersey Fireman's Home.
