Jan Joseph Jakiel

January 26, 1934 — September 9, 2015

Jan "Jake" Jakiel, 81, passed away September 9th under Hospice care after a long and courageous battle against cancer. He was born in Buffalo to the late Elvira and Stanley Jakiel.
Jake was a graduate of Eden Central High School and the University of Buffalo. He served at the U.S.Army Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville as a missile guidance instructor.

Jake was a man of many talents. He loved golf, skiing, boating, gardening and football. He managed the family Studebaker franchise and then was hired by Western Electric. He was a loaned executive to the National Alliance for Businessmen. Choosing to help his community, he became a manager for the Buffalo Area Chamber of Commerce in various capacities, until he was selected to be president of the South Bend -Mishawaka Chamber of Commerce in 1983. During that time he was selected for the Who's Who in the Midwest,'86-'87. He retired from Ameritech (now AT & T) in 1998. Retiring to St Petersburg, FL, he operated Jakiel Management, an owner apartment rental business. He retired in 2003 after by-pass surgery and moved to Tega Cay in 2006.

Jake was a member of Tega Cay Veterans and Lions. He was an active community member.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, E. Marie (MacDonald), his beloved dogs, brother Stanley Jakiel (Rosemary) and Marie's siblings: Mary Ellen Ericson, Colleen (Gary) Goldberg and Roy MacDonald. He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and 18 grand nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held at St Philip Neri Catholic Church on Saturday, September 19th at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the family plot in Hamburg, NY at a later date.
