Jean Hudgins Barnes

November 28, 1924 — February 24, 2021

Jean Hudgins Barnes passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Wayne T Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Eula Austin.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Garnet C Barnes, brother Herbert Austin and three sisters Alma Lanter, Arnolene Hall and Gelenna Walker.  She is survived by one brother, Mack Austin of Fort Mill, South Carolina; daughter, Linda Rutherford of Fort Mill, South Carolina; step-daughter Connie Cannon of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandson Keith Rutherford of Port Richy, Florida; granddaughter, Julie Cobb of Lenoir City, Tennessee; five great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Jean graduated from Beaver High School.  She worked as a clerical employee with Montgomery Ward and Bluefield Supply.  Her 35 year career was at Flat Top National Bank in Bluefield.  She enjoyed being part of the "Flat Top Family" as she connected with many customers and the community.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist and Edgemont Baptist Churches in Bluefield and worked in the children's ministry for many years.  Her faith, family, and friends brought joy to her life.

She and her husband moved to Fort Mill, South Carolina in 2005.  Jean was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Mill where she was active in her Sunday School Class and the Senior's Ministry.

She will be interned at Roselawn Cemetery with a private family service.
