Jean Elizabeth Buist Landrum

October 12, 1928 — February 26, 2020

Jean Elizabeth Buist Landrum, of Fort Mill, SC, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 26, 2020, surrounded by her family - much how she had endeavored to live her 91 years.

She was born October 12, 1928 in Williston, SC, to the late Charles Arthur and Nell Griffin Buist.

Jean lived a full and vibrant life. She enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship that came with spending time with family and friends. She was an easy person to love, giving of herself and always fulfilled by welcoming new friends into the folds of her family.

She was constant and loyal, but you would have been quite remiss had you ever crossed her or someone she loved. You would have woefully found yourself on the receiving end of a distinct message that would have put you squarely back in your place. She could always be counted on for tough love and tender honesty, when the hard moments of life arrived, and had a special way of putting people at ease with her kindness.

Jean was always active - she thrived on participating in whatever was happening around her. Whether on the periphery, or at the center of the attention, Jean was happy and content. Busy hands and a busy heart - wrapped up in the soul of a sweet, feisty South Carolina woman who marked this earth with her wit, her wisdom and her candor.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Jean was a steadfast Gamecocks football fan. At the age of 72, she retired from Spring Industries. As a valued and integral employee, they requested she return, and she retired for good at the age of 80. She was an active volunteer in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte. She was an avid tennis player and, until recently, was still walking a mile every day.

Jean will be greatly missed by so many, each of whom can be comforted in the knowledge that she left no stone unturned and no words unsaid. She is a fine example of a remarkable life, well-lived and well-loved.

She was a significant presence, measured and balanced by the life and love and light that she has left behind in the shapes and shadows of her family and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Landrum; her granddaughter, Catherine Turner; and her brothers, Jimmy Buist, Billy Buist and Bobby Buist.

She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Brown and husband, Dennis of Fort Mill; step-daughter, Ann Halpin of CO; step-son, Nick Landrum and wife, Pat of CO; grandchildren, Corrine Pittman, Amanda Turner and fiancé, James Landess, Melissa Adams and husband, Marcus and Rob Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please make a memorial donation in Jean's memory to: Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill SC 29731.
