Jeannette E. McCredy, age 95, passed away peacefully at Wellmore Senior Living, Tega Cay, SC with her daughter by her side on July 17, 2022.
Born in Waterville, NY on June 26, 1927, she was the daughter of Clifford and Ethel Silver McLaughlin. She graduated from Waterville High School, and on February 26, 1948 she married Robert W. McCredy. He passed away in 2018. For many years she resided in Sherburne, NY and Daytona Beach, FL.
She was a loving mother and inspiration to her four children: Robert Jr. (Marilyn) of Hamilton, NY; Barbara Scott (Duncan) of Lake Wylie, SC; W. Scott of Greer, SC; and Spencer (Mary Anne) of Norwich, NY.
Jeannette was an avid reader, often going through two or three books a week. She loved dancing, and at one time dreamt of performing on stage. That dream finally became a reality when she was randomly selected from the audience to join the Charlotte Ballet Company on stage. She was 91. The entire audience cheered her, and that night, she was a star!
She loved tending to her flowers, and many times over the years, won the “Lawn of the Month” award. She greatly enjoyed playing Bridge and belonged to several groups. Everyone complimented Jeannette on her exquisite light green eyes, even strangers on the street. For several years she worked at McLaughlin’s Department Store of Norwich, NY as a manager and clothes buyer and she was known for her great sense of style and fashion throughout her life.
Her Catholic faith was very important to her, and she lived by its principles.
She is survived by a sister, Joan Stephenson of Waterville, NY. and was predeceased by her siblings and in-laws, Arlene, Betty Doyle (Ed), Clifford (Joan), Spencer (Sandy), and brother-in-law Carter Stephenson.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, Heather Gadawski, Jennifer (Fred) Jenkins, Nathan (Megan) Gehm, J. Spencer (Jen), Samantha, Ross (Erin), Becky, Cali, Molly, and Michael McCredy and great grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob, Nicholas, Lily, Mia, Azlynn, Bodhi, Kian, Calista, Jax, Ronan, and many special nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her intelligence, strength, gentle ways, her easy laughter, and a smile that could light up a room.
