Mrs. Jessie Louise Walker was born April 20, 1934 in Richland County, Blythewood, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Louise Rawlins. She transitioned to heaven on October 15, 2022 at home in Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Walker; Her sister Mrs. Helen Love, and her brother Mr. Willie Hinton.
Jessie graduated from Emmette Scott High School in 1953. She met her husband in Pittsburgh, PA the summer after graduating from high school. She dedicated her life to caring for and raising a host of foster children and helping others.
She was affectionately called Ms. Jessie, Ma, “MeMa”, and “Meem” by her children, foster children, and friends. She was a dedicated member of Greater Allen Chapel A. M. E. Church and Destiny of Faith Church led by Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Gregg in Pittsburgh, PA. She served as a member of the Silver Leaf Choir, Usher Board, and Sunday School Teacher. Jessie was also a dedicated member of Catawba Chapel A. M. E. Zion Church in Catawba, SC and supported both churches. She loved spending time with family, sewing, fishing, helping others, and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Jessie leaves behind to continue her legacy two daughters, Debra Salter of Selma, NC; Charlene Troutman-Russell (William) of Pittsburgh, PA; three sons, Anthony Q. Walker of Catawba, SC, and Darrell and Darnell Davis-Walker of Pittsburgh, PA. She has 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a choir of current angels Mrs. Beatrice Culp, Mrs. Connie Witherspoon, Mrs. Bernita L. Gray, Mrs. Velma Jackson, and Mr. Carl Salter, and she will join many heavenly angels including Ms. La Shawna Troutman Mrs. Bernice McClanahan, Mrs. Betty Rollins and Mrs. Gazelle Rhodes.
The family of Mrs. Jessie L. Walker would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for the gracious showing of love, generosity, and support received during their time of bereavement. Words are too weak to define or express all of the kind acts that has been displayed. May God continue to bless you.
Mrs. Walker was blessed to have loving church families in Catawba, South Carolina and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that she loved and faithfully supported. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to one or both of the following churches in memory of Jessie L. Walker.
