Jesus Limon

November 25, 1939 — September 5, 2021

Rock Hill

Jesus “Jess” Limon passed away on Sunday, September 5th at age 81.  He made the brave decision to join the Hospice program and cease his kidney dialysis treatments 12 days prior to that, and to allow God to control the timing of his departure.

Jess was born on November 25, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA as the youngest of three children of Jesus And Graciela Limon.  Jess watched as a child as his uncles and father enlisted in the military during World War II, and his brother enlisted in the Navy for the Korean War.  This undoubtedly affected his decision to enlist in the US Army after graduation from Cantwell High School.  After basic training, Jess was deployed in peacetime to Baumholder, Germany which according to him were some of the most enjoyable years of his life and was a major point of pride for him.

Upon returning to the states in the early 1960s, Jess met his bride-to-be Juliann Drozdowski at a dance in Hamtramck, Michigan.  They moved to Southern California after their marriage and settled in Whittier where they started their family and opened their own meat market.  Eventually they grew the business to a full service deli and moved to a larger facility in the same town where they developed a large customer base and provided catering services to a number of Hollywood’s elite.  They eventually sold those businesses but Jess continued in the meat business and operated several production plants over the years.

Francine was their first-born daughter followed by her brother David 11 months later.  Both were raised in the Catholic tradition with quality educational experiences.

Jess and Juliann decided in their later years to move closer to their daughter and son-in-law in Murrieta, CA where they lived from 1999 to 2010.  After his wife Juliann’s passing in 2008, he formally retired in 2010, sold their home, and moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he lived for 6 months.  After contracting food poisoning and being in a hospital in Mexico for more than a month, Jess decided to return to the United States and moved in with his daughter and son-in-law in South Carolina where he remained for his final 11 years.

While Jess’s adult children, his sister, niece and numerous cousins and extended family survive him in California, there were limited friends and family in the SC area -- and therefore at his request there will be no formal services.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jess’s remembrance to the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House of Rock Hill, SC.
