Jimmy Joe Farthing

Jim Farthing of Cumming, Georgia passed away peacefully on May 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born in Montezuma, North Carolina to Conard and Jean Farthing.  He was the youngest of eight children.  He married Mary Ruth Roberts, and lived in Rock Hill until 2020.

Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, and friend.  Jim is survived by his wife Mary Ruth and three daughters and their spouses:  Susan and Bruce Hoelzen, Beth and Eddie Weeks, and Janice Jones Wilkins and Ira Wilkins.  He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and their spouses:  Lona and Ryan Rushforth, Max Hoelzen and McKenzie Owen, and Amanda and Scott Lackey.  In addition, he has 3 great-grandsons:  Liam and Owen Rushforth, and Jase Lackey.

A US Navy veteran, Jim specialized in the maintenance and repair of large aircraft engines.  Following his service in the Navy, he worked at Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company, and then was a long-time employee of the City of Rock Hill Water Department.

Jim enjoyed many hobbies including collecting local native American arrowheads, model trains, and model cars.   He and Mary Ruth enjoyed traveling with friends and family.

Jim was a member of Mt. Holly United Methodist Church in Rock Hill.  His family will receive friends at Mt. Holly at 12:30 PM on Wednesday May 31, followed by a funeral service in the sanctuary at 2:00 pm.

Memorials may be sent to Mt. Holly UMC Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
