Mr. Joab Burlin "J.B." Cooper, 77, passed away, Monday, January 30, 2012 at Piedmont Medical Center. A native of Six Mile, J.B. was a son of the late Louis and Ida Mae Cooper. Born on May 15, 1934 he was a retired crane operator for the Catawba Nuclear Station. After retirement he worked as a host for Hardee's on Herlong Avenue in Rock Hill for many years. J.B. was an avid hunter, fisherman, wood worker and a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #92. He also served during the Korean War with the United States Marine Corps. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are his loving wife Sara Rochester Cooper; two sons David and John Cooper both of Rock Hill; two daughters Polly Cooper Black and husband Mark of Huntersville, Kathy Cooper Covington and husband Guy of Rock Hill; one brother; one sister; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and as he called his "grandbaby dog" Moochie. A graveside service to celebrate the life of J.B. will be held Friday at 1:00pm at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens with Pastor Ronnie Helms officiating. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post 2889. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00-6:00pm at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home.
