Joan Barnes

Rock Hill - Mrs. Clara Joan Starnes Barnes of Rock Hill, 75, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017.

Born October 9th, 1941, in Hickory, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Pearl Brady Starnes and the late Walter Junior Starnes. She was a graduate of Grace Downs Airline Hostess School, however, she gave up that dream job in order to marry the love of her life, Charles B. Barnes, on October 15, 1961. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother. She retired from many years of faithful employment at Rock Hill City Government in Risk Management. She served as a Sunday School teacher at Rawlinson Road Baptist Church. Joan was known for her wry sense of humor and her dedication and organization. She loved travelling, gardening and especially spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Charles; her sons, Eric and Jason; daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Cheryl; and three grandchildren, Zach, Tiffany, and Kathryn. She is also survived by her sister, Maxine Starnes Carver and her family of Sawmills, North Carolina.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Forest Hills Cemetery with the Reverend Michael Beeks, pastor of Rawlinson Road Baptist Church, officiating.
