Johannes C De Jong "John"

Johannes C. de Jong, "John", 83, of Fort Mill, SC peacefully passed away Friday September 20, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born December 25, 1940 in Alkmaar, The Netherlands, John lived a joyous life full of love, laughter and kindness. He was known for his warm smile, playful and fun-loving personality, and unwavering devotion to his wife and the church. John took every opportunity to eat dessert first, crack a silly joke, and celebrate every occasion small or large.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and 6 of his 7 siblings. John has always been a family man. He was proud and honored to be a patriarch, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to his dear family. He always introduced his family members to each and every friend at church and was eager to share photos of his growing family over lunch or at the Rosary group. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lucia de Jong, his sister, Ria Houtenbos, his beloved children Margaretha (Andrew), Colin, and Robert (Nicki), his cherished grandchildren Donovan, Sarah (Boots), Chloe, Alex (Alicia), Chandler, Mia, Ashton and Brooke, and his adored great-granddaughter Jenna.

Outgoing and fun-loving in nature, John knew how to make everyone around him smile. John had a vast appreciation for the simple things in life, from whistling his favorite tunes, his garden, watching a Netherlands football match, enjoying a good meal with good company, to keeping track of who owed who an ice cream cone after playing cards each night with his delightful wife.

John touched the lives of many in his years of service at the church. John was very involved as a volunteer for the adoration chapel, in the Rosary group, and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. John will be missed dearly and will be remembered fondly for his kindness, big heart, and youthful spirit.

A Mass to honor and celebrate the life of John will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday October 5th at St Philip Neri Church in Fort Mill, SC.
