John Edward Cayea, age 71 of Fort Mill SC, formerly from North Babylon NY, passed away suddenly on May 4, 2021. John moved South with his wife, Denise, daughter Nicole and son Douglas, upon retiring in 2006 from Consolidated Edison in Flushing NY where he worked for 38 years as an electrical inspector.
John was born to John and Gladys Cayea on August 27, 1949 and lived with his parents, sister, Barbara, aunt Dorothy and uncle Walter until they all moved to Valley Stream, NY in 1967. He met Denise Merenda in February of 1968 and they married at St. Boniface Church in Elmont NY on April 11, 1971.
John served in the National Guard as a sergeant and was honorably discharged on May 1, 1973 after serving 6 years.
John loved to fish, bowl, watch sports and be with family and friends. He especially loved sitting poolside, finding new places to eat out and just enjoy retirement, despite a myriad of health issues.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart Denise, daughter Nicole married to Anthony Scotti, son Douglas married to Vicki Metcalf and his precious granddaughter Madison, daughter of Douglas and Vicki. In addition, there are numerous sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, his aunt Dorothy, and several great nieces and great nephews. His friends, both in NY and in Fort Mill became family to him and he truly loved them all.
Funeral arrangements have been made for Sunday May 9, 2021 from 12 PM to 3 PM in the chapel of Palmetto Funeral Home.
