Dr. John Emmanuel Dillé, 76, son of the late Charles Dillé and Lavone Dillé Erickson, passed peacefully after a long illness with Lewy Body Disease. Dr. Dillé leaves behind his wife Edith Turner Dillé and their children, William Patrick Roddey, Jr. (Amy), Lindsay Trae Roddey, and three grandchildren - Mason, Hayden and Laney - who were the delights of his life. He also predeceased his brother Richard (Susan) Dillé of Mill City, OR and sisters Sandra Kinyon from Penn Valley, CA, Sally Jones (Jerry) from Penn Valley, as well as nieces and nephews. Dr. Dillé retired from Winthrop University in 2006 after 34 years as a biology professor, dedicated researcher in the field of plant genetics, and editor of the Rice Biotechnology Quarterly. For more than 20 years, Dr. Dillé enjoyed taking classes of students, and his family, to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, running, kayaking, snow skiing, sky-diving, and spelunking. After retiring, he volunteered as a SC State Constable. He was a Christian and belonged to Harmony Baptist Church. The celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, February 5th at 3pm at Harmony Baptist Church, 5403 Harmony Church Rd., Edgemoor, SC. Visitors are welcome at the home, 329 Rose Garden Ct. Rock Hill, SC 29732. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harmony Baptist Church.
