John Charles Elder

Tega Cay, SC - Mr. Elder passed into the Lords hands on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at his home.

John, born 1947, was the son of the late John S. Elder and Evelyn G. Elder of Harrisburg, Pa. John was a Navy veteran serving on the USS Charles H. Roan and USS Matthew C Perry. He enjoyed boating, most major sports, playing cards especially poker, hearts and spades, hunting when younger and experimenting with his cooking in the kitchen. He was a senior marketing representative most of his life.

John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen Firestone Elder of Tega Cay, SC; his loving daughter, Cheryl L. Cotton and husband, Mike Cotton and 4 beautiful granddaughters of Mooresville, NC; his loving son, Ryan M Elder of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Joan Gill and husband, Jim of Souderton, Pa; and Diane Lindley of The Woodlands, TX; and a brother, David Elder and wife, Peg of Harrisburg, Pa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at Whitesell Funeral Home, Rock Hill, SC with Chaplin Miriam Mick officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews/Weddington, N.C. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at historic Paxton Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, Pa.
