John E. Elliott

John E. Elliott, 92, of Rock Hill, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014. He was born September 29, 1921 in Lancaster County SC to the late Walter and Pearl Elliott. He was a graduate of Furman University and proudly served his Country in WWII serving in the South Pacific Theatre as a member of the Army Air Force Division. He served on Tinian Island, the launching point for the atomic bomb delivery against Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, ending WWII. He proudly displayed his service by wearing a WWII cap he received during the Honor Flight to Washington., D.C. He was retired from the South Carolina School System. After retirement he kept busy with various entrepreneurial endeavors. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Branham and son-in-law Eddie Wilson He is survived by: His wife of 74 years: Dessie Sims Elliott; Children Judith Davenport (Charles) Bill J. Elliott (Nancy) Mary Ann Motz (Houston) Pat Wilson John A Elliott (Mana) Sheryl Brown (Jeff) Grandchildren Paul Elliott Adriane Dewlan (Kevin) Troy Motz (Marty) Mark Motz (Jocelyn) Reid Elliott (Katheryn) Luke Hough (Shelley) Joy Ayers (David) Taylor Elliott Spencer Blackwell Great Grandchildren Daniel Elliott Sol Dewlen Naria Dewlen Ashley Motz Katlynn Motz Madelyn Motz Bowen Elliott Sander Elliott Lawson Hough Shepard Hough Great Great Grandchild Ava Davenport A funeral service will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 2:00pm in the Inspiration Baptist Church with interment to follow in Grandview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm Thursday evening at the Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Inspiration Baptist Church, 921 Comer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 or Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill SC 29731.
