The man, the myth, the legend, John Robert Freeman (71) passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer on March 22, 2024. His passing was peaceful, and he was surrounded by those who loved him most. John was born in Rock Hill on February 12, 1953, to John and Isabel Freeman, who have both preceded him in death. He was also greeted at Heaven’s Gate by his son, Justin Freeman. He is survived by his daughter Jackie Poole (Michael) and his granddaughters Riley & Harper Poole, of Rock Hill SC as well as his brother Ron Freeman (Donna) of Surfside Beach, SC.
In his youth, he trained as a bull rider under the tutelage of a US world champion. It was then he learned that he could ALWAYS thrill the crowd. If not with his ride, then by being thrown off and stepped on. Since more often than not the throw and step was the crowd pleaser, he changed professions, though he never lost his love of the sport. As an electrical engineer, he traveled the US working on power plants and wind farms until he took his skills across the globe. John lived and worked in places such as Iraq, Indonesia, and Croatia, helping to restore electricity for the people of these war-torn countries.
John was a man who loved the adventure of travels more than anything and he has now embarked on his greatest adventure to date- a rebirth in a new destination, the glory and beauty of which we can only imagine. A memorial service will be held at his home 2532 Killian Road, Edgemoor SC, 29712 at 11:00 am Saturday April 6th, 2024.
