John David ("Jack") Olinger

John David Olinger, better known to his friends and family as Jack, Papa or Daddy O passed away after a long battle with cancer on Friday, February 10th. If you knew Jack you know that he approached life and all of its obstacles with the most positive outlook and attitude. He was goofy and loving and a collector of many things. He blessed everyone that met him with a smile and was always the most liked man in any room.

Jack was born on April 13, 1946 in Elmhurst, Illinois attended Miami University of Ohio where he was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta. He attended Northwestern University where he got a master's in Business Administration. Shortly after he moved his family to Wausau, Wisconsin to become the hospital administrator at Wausau Hospital and eventually became an owner of Hammerblow Corporation. After retirement he settled down as a resident of Springfield in Ft. Mill, South Carolina. He spent the spring in Phoenix, Arizona making sure to never miss a Cubs Spring Training Game.

Jack left this world surrounded by the love of his life, Marilyn Kaye Olinger and his girls Katie Cosmas, Courtney Olinger, Whitney Houk and Casie Scott. He’s also survived by his brother Richard (Dick) Olinger, his wife Pat and their family, 4 wonderful son-in-laws, step-son, Brad Scott and his 7 grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. David Louis Olinger, mother Uarda Olinger Boyd, brother Robert Donald Olinger, son David Ryne Olinger, and granddaughter Taylor Paige Cosmas.

Services for Jack will be held Friday, February 17th at 11am at Palmetto Funeral Home 2049 Carolina Place Dr. Fort Mill, SC 29708.

Please show your love for Jack by wearing Cubs gear, cubbie blue or red. Casual attire.

Reception will be held immediately following at Jack and MK’s home.

We will miss him every day for the rest of our lives, but we are at peace knowing that he is no longer in pain.
