Major John J. Pensiero died peacefully at the age of 88 in Rock Hill, SC. He died Saturday, July 13, 2013. He was born January 1, 1925 in Cold Springs, NY. He was the son of the late Giuseppi & Rosina Pensiero. He served in the Air Force for 29 years. He began as an Army Air Core man and was in WWII. He had a short break and was a pharmacist then called back into active duty for Korea. He was also stationed in Greenland during the cold war. His final station was at the Air Force Academy where he taught Human Physiology. He went on to become a stock broker at EF Hutton. His hobbies included snow skiing, mountain climbing; he climbed all of the 14,000 footers in the US, Instructor for ice dancing where he met his wife Barbara. He got to skate with Peggy Fleming while she was training at the AF Academy for the Olympics. He also flew on the trapeze just because he wanted to. He was an amateur photographer as well. He taught us all to live life to the fullest. He is survived by his wife Barbara, two daughters; Ann Maria Norment and Kathryn Tiddark, three sons; John L. Pensiero, Mark Pensiero and Joseph Pensiero, two brothers; Joseph Pensiero and William Pensiero, his sister; Josephine Heatherington, nine grandchildren; Ian Hanshew, Lucas and Nicholas Woehrle, Breanna, Genoa and Chelsea Alexander, Leslie and Ryan Selser and Tristen Gilbertson as well as seven great grandchildren; Morgan, Robert, Eric and Mia Hanshew, Jill, Phaedra and Favrielle Alexander as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Palmetto Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Mill at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 20, 2013 with Father John Giuliani, C.O. officiating. A Reception will follow the service at Palmetto Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of York Co. 8177 Regent Parkway, Fort Mill, SC 29708.
