John Neil Scales, Jr.

John Neil Scales, Jr., 44, of Tega Cay, SC died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 28th. He was the son of Joan and John Scales and grew up in Greensburg, PA. He was a graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School and Boston University. John was a Project Manager at Bank of America. John and his family moved from Medway, MA to Tega Cay in January 2005 and was a valued member of our community. He served with the Cub Scouts as a Den Leader and Committee Chairman of BSA Pack 250 in Fort Mill for eight years. He was the President of the Parent Committee of the Tega Cay Breakers swim team, valued volunteer on the RAYS swim team in Rock Hill, Assistant Coach for the Fort Mill Fury U11 and Fort Mill Venom Lacrosse Teams, and a Math Superstars Grader at Gold Hill Elementary School. He was an amazing man who did everything he could with his kids and for his wife and always with a smile. He is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Cheryl, daughter of Roger and Betty McDowell of East Falmouth, MA; their three children, Andrew (14), Evan (11), and Elizabeth (10); his parents Joan and John Scales of Greensburg, PA; his sister Laura Wallace of Greensburg; his sister Lisa Scales of Pittsburgh, PA; and his sister Gretchen and her husband Michael Rizzo, and their two children Michael and Brian of Pittsburgh. The funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, June 2 at Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC. The family will greet friends following the service with a reception in the Fellowship Hall. John's family is being served by Palmetto Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Mill, SC.
