John Bradley Whiteside, Jr. (58) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, died December 20, 2019, at Atrium Health in Charlotte. Visitation will be Monday, December 23 at 2, with service to follow at 3 at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He will be buried in Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.
Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, John was the only child to father, John Bradley Whiteside, Sr., and mother, Katherine Alexander Whiteside. He married the love of his life, Dr. Mary Elizabeth McKemy, in May of 2001, and they had one child, John Bradley Whiteside, III ("Jonah") in October of 2010.
John was a devoted father to Jonah. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed introducing Jonah to scouts and even did so when his health should have prevented it. He was an avid supporter of Mary and followed her to conferences and meetings just to be there. Even when they were dating and she needed help with a Vacation Bible School, he took a week off work and assisted her.
Outside of his family, he loved music, Disney, and Clemson football. He and Mary used to sing in church choirs together. He took Mary and Jonah on their first trips to Disney World. And he loved rooting for his Tigers.
John is survived by his wife of 18 years, Mary McKemy, of Rock Hill, son Jonah Whiteside, of Rock Hill, and several cousins in Charlotte, North Carolina and Columbia, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
