Rock Hill, SC

Joseph “Joe” Rufus Moseley Jr. May 20, 1935 – December 21, 2022 Affectionately known as “Joe, Sport, or Video Mo”, Joseph Rufus Moseley Jr., peacefully departed this life on the morning of December 21, 2022, at his home in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born in Byron. Georgia on May 20, 1935, Joseph was the eldest son born to the late Joseph R. Moseley Sr. & Helen Kilpatrick.

On April 1, 1957, Joe married his high school sweetheart Patricia Anne Waller at Saint John Methodist in Tupelo, Mississippi. To this union three children were born; one son, Joseph R Moseley III (1958), and two daughters; Elizabeth Anna (Libby) Moseley (1960), Cecelia Marie Moseley (1975).

Joe attended Auburn University where he graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While attending Auburn, he joined Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and spent 4 years in the Air Force ROTC. Years of participation in ROTC, led to him becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in United States Air Force. His military career led to two years at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida and two years at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a mechanic who worked on B-58 Planes and earned the final ranking of 1 st lieutenant. After the military, Mr. Joe was employed by Exxon Mobil where he was a project engineer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He later worked for 33 years as an engineer for the Celanese Plant in both Rome, Georgia and Rock Hill, South Carolina where he retired in 1998.

Mr. Moseley’s love for mechanics fueled his passion for car collecting. With over 60 cars, mainly Cadillacs, the first car in his collection was a 1950 Oldsmobile and the oldest car is a 1948 Cadillac. A NASCAR fan who loved repairing and washing cars, attending car shows, building hand-controlled model airplanes and riding his John Deere zero turn lawn mower, Joe’s favorite pastime was spending time at home and his life motto was “cars, work and family.” His generous nature extended beyond family to the Saint Jude Foundation, of which he was an avid supporter.

Joseph Moseley Jr. is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia Anne Waller of Rock Hill, South Carolina. His sister, Martha Helen (William) Hilmes of Atlanta, Georgia. His three children Joseph R. Moseley III (Angela) of Sunset, Louisiana, Elizabeth Libby Diesel (Jim) of Durham, North Carolina, and Cecelia (Cece) Hovis (Brian) of Rock Hill, South Carolina.
