Joseph Leon Plourde

Joseph Leon Plourde “Joe”, 86, of Rock Hill and formerly of Los Lunas, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, June 19, 2021 in Rock Hill, South Carolina after a short illness with his wife of 60 years by his side.  He was born March 23, 1935 in Caribou, Maine, son of the late Leon and Roseanna Paradis Plourde.

Joe proudly served his country for 26 years in the U.S. Armed Forces including 3 years in the Army, 3 years in the National Guard, and retiring from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years, achieving the rank of Master Sargent.  He went on to enjoy a very successful career as a field service engineer and instructor for Digital Equipment Corporation.

Joe is survived by his wife, Helen Earleta “Lee” Roberts Plourde, his daughters Rita Lynn Plourde and partner, David Olson of Utah, Jean Marie Stanley of New Mexico,  Anna Louise Tweten of Rock Hill, and his nephew, Damon Earl Bruce and wife, Melissa of New Mexico; grandchildren, Anna Smock and husband, Sean and Adam Stanley and wife, Hanna, of New Mexico, Sarah Snapp and husband, Peter of Maryland and Heather Luna of Missouri; great-grandchildren, Hendrick Smock, Tidus, Tirian, Luca, Priya and Airi Stanley, Archer, Ainsley and Audie Luna, and Charlie Snapp (very soon).  Also surviving are sisters Theresa Andrews of Maine, Florence White and Anne Plourde of Massachusetts; and brother George Plourde of Oklahoma.

In addition to his parents Joe was predeceased by his sisters, Emma Whitt of Tennessee, Elizabeth Beaulieu, Mary Phelan, Louise Espling, Cecile Espling, and Laura Sweeney of Maine, Regina Beaumier of Connecticut; and brother, Louis Plourde of Massachusetts.

Joe left many fond and cherished memories that will be forever in the hearts of everyone that knew him.  The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses who cared for him at Piedmont Hospital and to the hospice nurses and staff for their help and support.

At Joe’s request there will be no service and his ashes will be remain with his wife.
