Joseph "Joe" Clark White, Jr. passed away in Rock Hill, South Carolina on February 14, 2016 at the age of 95. He resided in Fort Mil, South Carolina with his wife of thirty-four years, Linda W. White.
Joe was born in Natural Bridge, Alabama on July 6, 1920. The oldest of seven children, he was the son of Joseph Clark White, Sr. and Ida Reeve White. Joe is survived by his wife Linda, his children Joseph C. White, III, David A. White, and Melissa S. White, his stepchildren Jacqueline N. Davis, Esq. and Stephen W. White, and six grandchildren.
A solider, real estate agent and broker, and civil servant, Joe accomplished more in one life than many lives put together. He joined the National Guard at age eighteen. Two years later, Joe joined the Army. Joe honorably served his country during World War II as an infantry sergeant and later as an officer pilot for the Army Air Corps. In 1953, Joe joined the U.S. Immigration Border Patrol. He rose in the ranks to District Director, Assistant Regional Commissioner and Chief Intelligence Officer.
In 1974, Joe retired from civil service and returned to his long-time love of real estate in Tampa, Florida. In 1978, he began working for the National Rifle Association ("NRA") in Washington, DC. He served as Deputy Executive Vice President. After his retirement from the NRA, Joe was elected to a three-year term on the NRA Board of Directors.
Joe's many achievements, whether in service to his country, in civil service, or in the private sector are rivaled only by his achievements on the pistol range. He placed second in the three-gun national pistol championships in both 1954 and 1955. He was a firing member of the Border Patrol teams that won five team matches at the national championships. Commencing in 1983, Joe was the Maryland Resident Pistol Champion for nine consecutive years. He won the National Senior Pistol Championship six times, first at the age of 64 and the last time at the age of 72.
Joe is a published author of several books on subjects concerning his life, his careers and fiction that he published later in his life.
His most important achievement was that of a loving husband, father and grandfather. Joe will be deeply missed and forever loved.
