Josephine Carol Gorski

September 3, 1924 — February 9, 2018

Josephine Carol Kurpeawski Gorski of Westminster Manor in Rock Hill, SC went to be with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ on February 9th, 2018. She shared her love of life with family and friends for 93 years and always spread sunshine wherever she went. Josephine never met a stranger, everyone loved her and she loved them. She called everyone "her dear, dear friend" when introducing them, and it came from her loving heart. She was known as "the kazoo lady" and loved playing Amazing Grace and When the Saints Go Marching In, along with Happy Birthday and many other songs for the residents at Westminster. Visitation will be at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home on Heckle Boulevard in Rock Hill on Friday 2/16 from 2:00-4:30 pm. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be at The Oratory on Charlotte Avenue on Saturday 2/17 at 2:00 pm. Josephine was born September 3, 1924 to Joseph & Camilla Mierzewski Kurpeawski in Greenwich, C T. She was the youngest of 8 children. She had 5 brothers; John, Joe, Charlie, Eddie & Phillip. She also had 2 sisters; Helen & Jennie. Her parents & siblings all predeseased her. After high school, she worked a short while in the Electrolux factory to aid World War II efforts. After that she became a dental assistant in Greenwich. Then she met the love of her life, John Gorski Sr. when she attended a dance at the Polish Club in Port Chester, NY. He was a handsome sailor just back from the war wearing his Navy uniform. She called him "her Johnny". They married on June 14, 1947 and raised 4 children, John Jr, Janis, Gary & Michael. Josephine went back to work at the daycare for a Jewish Synagogue in Port Chester , NY and eventually became the Director teaching the children crafts & music. John & Josephine moved to Rock Hill, SC in 19 75 when Homelite closed in NY and moved to Rock Hill, SC. Josephine is survived by her 4 children and their spouses, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Josephine's favorite flowers are sunflowers, which truly represent her sunny, happy disposition and love of life, family & friends. Memorials may be made to The Oratory in lieu of flowers.
