Joshua Allen Lamb, 43, of Rock Hill, SC, died January 5, 2023. He was born July 23, 1979, in Charlotte, NC, and is survived by his parents, Allen and LouAnn Lamb, sister, Caroline Lamb O’Brien, and two nephews. He was the grandson of the late Charles H. and Harriet A. Lehman of Fort Mill, SC.
As a little boy, Josh was imaginative and drawn to music. He would spend hours crafting Rube Goldberg machines; using all the Legos, Hot Wheels track, books and paper tubes in the house, then gleefully send a marble into a wobbly chain reaction that stretched from his bed to the living room sofa. After seeing Itzhak Perlman on Sesame Street, he asked for violin lessons and in middle school, picked up guitar, too. As a teen he enjoyed skateboarding so much that his dad and a neighbor built a half-pipe in the backyard for all the local skater-kids to ‘shred’. Josh also had the opportunity to do some modeling for department store newspaper ads and promotional product catalogs.
Josh graduated from Harding University High School in 1997 where he played violin in the orchestra and electric guitar in the jazz band. He attended Florida State University for three semesters before transferring to UNC Charlotte where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies.
Josh was outgoing and fun and would engage anyone and their dog in conversation. (Literally. He LOVED dogs.) He was a natural in customer service or sales-oriented jobs, but never settled into a career. After some deeply honest self-examination, he decided that what he really wanted to do was to start his own dog-walking and pet-sitting business. With some clever one-man-marketing, very long hours in all kinds of weather, and dozens of pairs of walking shoes, he built In Good Hands Pet Care. He was proud of the business; working independently and mostly outdoors with animals, nourished his body and soul.
Friends are remembering him as always kind and encouraging. One said, “With all the pain and confusion life brought him, he was a bright light in a moment when I needed one most.”
Palmetto Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. There will be a private interment at a later date. For those who wish to honor Joshua with a memorial gift, please consider Charlotte Rescue Mission or the Humane Society of York County . Or, next time you go for a walk on the Baxter or Riverwalk trails, take a pocketful of dog treats with you and give them out to the doggos you pass, saying, “This one’s from Josh.”
