A native of Walterboro, SC, Mrs. Murphy was born in the year 1921 and was the daughter of the late Archibald C. and Alsenia Breland. She was a member of Edgemoor A.R.P. Church, as well as a former member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, FL from 1948 to 1982. Mrs. Murphy was a member of the Khem Temple No. 85 Daughters of the Nile. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Chester County Home Economist Association. Mrs. Murphy retired from Bell South Telephone Company after 41 years of service. She was currently residing at Morningside of Rock Hill, where she had been receiving compassionate care during the last month of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clyde C. Murphy, Jr.; her brothers, Broadus J. Breland and E. Dean Breland, Sr.; her half-brother, E. Wendell Breland; and her half-sisters, Bessie L. Breland and Thelma "Brea" V. Breland. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Clyde C. Murphy, III and Melanie E. Murphy of Orlando, FL; 7 nephews; and 6 nieces. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Murphy will be held 11am Friday, June 28, 2013 at Edgemoor A.R.P. Church with Rev. J. Allen Derrick officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Cemetery Fund, Edgemoor A.R.P. Church, Edgemoor, SC or to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home, 51 Main St. Enterprise, FL 32725.
