It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news of the passing of, Juliana Genevieve Belcsak on December 1st, 2020, in Rock Hill, SC after a long battle with cancer which she fought with bravery, strength and dignity to the very end.
Born in Austria, on July 8th, 1937, she came to the United States in the mid-sixties and quickly fell in love with this country. She was a very proud American, while at the same time, proud of her Austrian roots. She developed a sister city program between the city of Montclair, NJ and Graz, Austria to join the two places that were close to her heart, as well as an exchange program between Graz and Montclair Universities that allowed students to spend time abroad and further an understanding between the two countries she loved. The town of Montclair has named Belcsak Graz Park in honor of the generous and dedicated commitment she had to creating and fostering this international friendship.
Alongside these endeavors, she designed and implemented a program that helps children whose families cannot afford heart operations to have them donated in full by Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.
A proud Rotarian, Juliana became president of the Montclair Rotary Club and was honored to become a member of the Rotary Club in Fort Mill shortly after moving to South Carolina. She also became a member of the Women’s Club of Fort Mill and very much loved all the wonderful people she met in both organizations.
Juliana was an extraordinary, compassionate, caring and generous woman who loved volunteering and gave everything she could to anyone in need of help. She looked forward every week to spending time at the Community Café food truck to prepare meals and distribute them to local families. She believed that no person should ever go hungry, and she did her best to give all she could to those in need.
Juliana leaves behind her daughter, Claudia Belcsak, nephews, Kevon Martis, Eric Martis, Christian Liebich and a niece, Corina Liebich as well as many grand nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be buried in Montclair, NJ alongside her husband, Hans Belcsak and son, Henry Belcsak.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held in SC, (details to follow).
