Karen Grace (Schultz) Dyer

October 8, 1942 — September 18, 2024

York, SC

York, SC – Karen Grace Dyer, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A native of Fresno, California, Karen was the beloved daughter of the late William Schultz and Kathleen Zimmerman Schultz.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - York Ward, 1130 Alexander Love Highway, York, SC 29745.

At the age of eight, Karen became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where her faith would remain a central part of her life. As a child, she was often found adventuring with her Girl Scout friends or caring for her younger brother. Karen’s strong sense of service and leadership was evident early on as she joined Job’s Daughters International and later became the chief editor of her high school’s yearbook.

Karen was a woman of many talents, both professionally and personally. She successfully ran her own bookkeeping business for 18 years, but it was her deep compassion and dedication to helping others that truly defined her. Whether she was teaching the elderly a new skill, volunteering with her church’s Primary class, or simply being a kind and listening friend, Karen lived a life devoted to serving others.

Karen’s creative spirit shone through in her stained-glass designs, intricate ceramic works, and remarkable photography. She was also an animal lover with a special fondness for feeding hummingbirds and doting on her cats.

Karen will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her family was important to her, and she leaves behind two daughters, Tami Proksch and Kimberly Corsini; a brother, Charles Schultz (Nancy); four grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her niece Kristin and nephew Jeffrey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Justin Dyer.

Karen’s warmth, kindness, and creative spirit touched many lives, and she will be dearly missed by those who knew her.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Helms-Gordon Residential Care and Providence Care for their compassion and genuine dedication. Their loving care made all the difference, and we are forever thankful.

Whitesell Funeral Home is serving the family.
