Kenton Wayne Cope

Kenton Wayne Cope, 87, of Mint Hill, NC, formerly of Fort Mill, SC, Newburgh, IN and Brevard, NC, died peacefully on June 3, 2021 at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House at Southminster.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ethel Cope and his brother Edwin.

A graduate of Sylva High School in Sylva, NC, he attended Western Carolina University before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He proudly served in post-war Korea.

He is survived by his high-school sweetheart and wife of sixty-six years, Frankie Jean (Daves) Cope.

Throughout his life, wherever he lived, he faithfully attended and served in various roles in a local Baptist Church. He generously and joyfully gave of his time, talent and treasure; singing bass in the choir, driving the church bus or fulfilling the responsibilities of deacon. At the time of his death, he was a member of First Baptist Church Fort Mill.

After retiring from DuPont in Brevard, Ken pursued his primary passions of being a “Papaw” and of ministering to inmates through the Bill Glass Behind the Walls Ministry.

In addition to wife, Frankie Jean, he is survived by sister, Willetta Cope Vance of Sylva, NC; daughter, Connie Bonebrake and Tom of Charlotte, NC; Grand and great grandchildren, Kari, Cole, Ellis and Hewitt Kessell of Charlotte, NC; Michele, Joe, Jonah and Hadley McCready of Fort Mill and Kent Bonebrake and Krissanna Raymond of Fort Collins, CO.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staffs of Atrium Mercy, Sardis Oaks, Cadence Assisted Living Mint Hill and Levine and Dickson Hospice House at Southminister for the compassionate care provided to their beloved Husband, Father and Papaw.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm Saturday June 12th at Grace Presbyterian Church, Fort Mill, SC with a celebration of his life and inurnment at the church ceremony will follow at 2:00pm.
