Kevin Bret Wheeler, 53, of Fort Mill passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020 following a nearly six-year battle with melanoma.
Kevin was born on May 26, 1966 in Rochester, NY to Alen and Sandy Wilson Wheeler. He graduated from Fairport High School and obtained a Business degree from Nazareth College. He married his wife, Sandra Wheeler in 1995 and moved to Fort Mill, SC. He was employed by Hearst Corporation for 22 years as an International Accounting Manager and was a beloved colleague and friend to those he worked with.
Kevin was an avid sports fan and his favorite teams included the New York Yankees, Carolina Panthers and Golden State Warriors. He would stay up late watching games, especially during the playoffs and could always be heard shouting at the players on television. Kevin had a love for music. He attended many concerts and was a gifted piano and guitar player. He enjoyed relaxing and spending time with his family. He had a fondness for planning vacations, leading to many family adventures.
One of Kevin’s true passions was ministry. He had a huge heart and truly cared about helping people in need. In 2015, he formed his nonprofit “Instruments of Christ”, whose mission is to share the story of Jesus to kids in a fun, friendly, positive Christian environment. Instruments of Christ hosted events at small churches where children heard the story of Jesus and were given their pick of free instruments to take home. Other events included delivering groceries, winter coats as well as school supplies to those in need. Instruments of Christ also volunteered at Levine Children’s Hospital where children played instruments and received free toys. He loved praying for people and spreading the love of Jesus at every opportunity he could find.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Sandra Wheeler of Fort Mill and twin daughters, Jessica and Ashley. Also surviving him are parents Alen and Sandy Wheeler, brother Todd Wheeler and wife Beth, brothers-in-law and wives, mother-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
We take comfort in Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose”.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 2 pm in the Chapel of Palmetto Funeral Home. A live stream of the service may be viewed at the Palmetto Funeral Group Facebook page.
