Kwok Chiu Chu

Kwok Chiu Chu, 84 of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully Sunday July 1, 2018 at his home in the company of his loving family. Born January 3, 1934 in Taisun, China, he was the hardworking son of Chang Ben and Shuang Feng (nee Huang). He was and forever will be the Beloved husband of 63 years to Toyyee (nee Louie); Devoted father to 4 sons and 1 daughter- Mon (Yongna) Chu of Charlotte, NC, Henry (Deming) Chu of Wilmington, NC, Sue (Paul) Schmitt of Princeton, MA, Wing (Mai) Chu of Fort Mill, SC, and Lam (Cynthia) Chu of State Road, NC; Proud grandfather to 13; Treasured great-grandfather to 1. Known for his kindness, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Kwok Chiu was a CPA by trade, and gave up a successful business in Hong Kong for the chance to give his family a new life in the United States. In 1972, Kwok Chiu made the difficult decision to leave his family behind and immigrate to Boston, MA, believing that with hard work he would soon be able to bring them over to join him. Years later, the family was reunited when Kwok Chiu was able to get passage to the U.S. for Toyyee and the children. They eventually settled in North Carolina, where they opened a family restaurant. Over the years, Kwok Chiu and Toyyee filled their home with wall-to-wall photos of the grandchildren and their achievements, and he will forever be their #1 fan. One year ago on July 1, 2017 he was baptized into the Charlotte Chinese Baptist Church and remained a faithful member of the congregation until his death. A truly generous spirit, Kwok Chiu will continue to touch and guide his loved ones with his strength and wisdom. There will be a visitation Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill, SC 29708 followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations to be sent in honor of Kwok Chiu Chu to Hospice and Palliative Care - Charlotte Region, P.O Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247.
