Laurel Lynn Young

August 10, 1949 — March 31, 2020

On Tuesday, March 31, 2020 Laurel Lynn Young, age 70, passed away in her home in Rock Hill, SC peacefully to be with the Lord.

She is survived by her daughter, Corrin Kay Hill and her son Curt Thomas Young. She was blessed with twelve grand children: Ashleigh, Kailey, Brenna, Savannah, Rachel, Christopher, Caroline, Ava, Joshua, Judah, Evelyn and Josiah.

Her father Ernest Humphrey married her mother Ruby Nelson. Laurel was born in New Britain, CT. Her father, Ernest, passed away while she was just four years old. She was raised by her mother Ruby with support from Ruby's sister Annie Jo (Josephine). Laurel met Thomas Young and they were married. Laurel always said her best years were her earlier years living in Connecticut. She was an avid artist, loved to go camping, spending time with her family and had a knack for garage sales. She loved to go shopping and giving gifts to others. She had a compassion for people. She loved people. As a young child, I can remember being toted around as my mom would go to people's houses to help care for them. I can recall one single mom who had a boy similar in age to me. She would bring them groceries as I would play and she would talk and help her clean the house.

Those who knew Laurel knew her to be boisterous and loud and full of energy. She was fun to be around and had a positive attitude. Laurel loved the Lord and served in her community and in the church. She was a witness to several people and helped lead them to the Lord.

While in Connecticut mom worked for a company and using a decoupage technique, designed fancy telephones. Her fame is apparently one of them resided in the White House for a period of time. She also started her own interior design company and ran it for several years. She was an artist by trade. She loved to paint when she had the time. She had wonderful friends and spoke of them often.

As we got older we moved to Texas. Mom struggled personally with this move and never was able to fully adapt. It was at this time she began to struggle with alcoholism, an addiction she was never able to overcome and ultimately led to her demise. She did build wonderful friendships in Texas, some of her strongest. She spoke of her friends there often and she loved them. She faced many trials herself and also walked through the trials with her friends as well. Her life seemed to be a constant challenge for a long period of time.

My sister and I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and friendships to her over the years. You meant much to her.
