Lavinia McCall

June 15, 1939 — January 16, 2025

Tega Cay, SC

Lavinia McCall passed away in her home on Thursday January 16, 2025. The second daughter to the late James Leroy and Sadie Mae Osborne McCall. Preceded by her brother O. Downey McCall and sister Julia Ann McCall. Lavinia was a lifelong resident of Fort Mill only being away for a stint in the U.S Marine corp. She was an excellent athlete in both high school and the corp. She loved horses and spent many years training them. She has many interests in nature and artifacts. She was an avid collector of arrowheads and proudly displayed them. A great whittler and wood carver. Her knowledge of birds, trees and tomatoes could easily rival any professors in those fields. She enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor from her garden with friends and family. She was tough and didn’t mind letting you know it. She could swing an axe better than any woman and most men bar none. A true coin collector at heart and was exceptional at it. Sharking her collections with her many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was sharp as a tack and recalled stories and events as if they had just happened days ago even if some of them had been over 70 years before. She had an enormous amount of family history that she would gladly share with you upon request. She gave off a tough exterior but was truly a softie at heart as we discovered though her love of Hallmark movies. She is survived by her bothers Ambrose McCall (Nancy) daughter Amy, James Douglas McCall (Elaine), daughters Cathy, Crystal, Connie and Johnsie, and Roger McCall (Lavinia) sons Roger and Doug, and her cousin and lifelong friend Carolina D Helms.

Since this is mine to write it should not go unnoticed that the last 9 months have been very much a learning experience, for all of us. The around the clock care given by (what she called her 5 nieces) Cathy, Crystal, Connie, myself and Jenny. I know we are all better for it. It’s brought a communication and closeness between us that would be hart for anyone else to dare to try to match. I can only say thank you to Lavinia for that. It has all been worth it to spend time with her and to get to know her the way we did. I can just see her now, sporting that cowboy hat, boots and wearing a killer belt buckle. She’s telling Jute all about how thing have grown around here and I know she’s swinging the hell out of that axe. She will always be in our heart – Johnsie
