Legrand Richard Parris Sr.

LeGrand Richard Parris, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday August 17, 2016 surrounded by his loving family and many friends. He was born August 15, 1938 in Gaffney, SC as one of eight children to parents Luther and Lucille Westmoreland Parris. He was married 58 years to his high school sweetheart Brenda Holland Parris. LeGrand is precluded in death by his parents, two brothers Bill (Emily) Parris and Wayne (Carolyn) Parris, both of Gaffney, SC; two sisters Evelyn (Stafford) Belk of Rock Hill, Louise (Fred) Dunlap of Columbia, SC; and one great-granddaughter Savannah Sweatt. He is survived by his wife, a brother Alvin Luther (Victoria) Parris of Boiling Springs, SC; two sisters Joan (Stanley) Kyzer of Columbia, SC and Jean (Jim) Northcutt of Harlem, GA; three daughters Lynn (Randy) Sweatt, Denise Black-Graham (Jack Gillespie), Kate (Keith) Johnson all of Rock Hill, SC; two sons Richard (Chad) Parris of Mint Hill, NC, Jonathan (Shannon) Parris of Union, SC; twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. LeGrand is a Vietnam Veteran and served 14 years as Flight Engineer in the United States Air Force. He worked as an accountant for Westinghouse Corp, Field Representative for Catawba Timber, and owned his own trucking company. He graduated from Limestone College, was a life member of VFW Post 9138 and served as Chaplain. Community service included PTA Treasurer at Finley Road School and local precinct member of the Republican Party. He was a life member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was blessed to have served as a Sunday school teacher, Serviceman's coordinator in France, Ward Missionary, High Council member, High Priest group leader, Stake Young Men's Presidency member, Sunday School Superintendent, and a Branch Councilor of the York Branch. A Service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 2pm at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in York. Interment at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens will follow the service. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in York. Online condolences may be registered at www.basscares.com.
