Leonard Ernest Horton, 80, of 1078 Eastwood Drive, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center. A native of Chesterfield County, Mr. Horton was born January 11, 1931 a son of the late Leonard Massey and Martha Dunn Horton. Mr. Horton was a retired captain of the Rock Hill Fire Department after thirty years of service. He was a faithful member of Eastside Baptist church for more than fifty years where he was at one time a deacon, trustee, choir member and member of the Men's Ministries. He served in the U.S. Army in Panama. He was a member of the Masoic Lodge 111, was a lifetime member of Hejaz and was a member of the Crescent Hejaz Shrine Club where he was the 2010 Shriner of the Year. He also loved to raise money for the children's hospital. He played softball for Aragon Mill, and loved to fish and hunt. Surviving are his loving wife Shirley Poole Horton; one son Michael Horton of Rock Hill; and many other loving family and friends. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Horton will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at Eastside Baptist Church with Revs. Jimmy Holley, Jerry DeVinney and Dr. James Neal officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until the hour of servioe at the church. Memorials in honor of Mr. Horton may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 318 N. Jones Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to Shiner's Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL, 33607.
