Leonard 'Lenny: Charles Weissberger

May 7, 1938 — October 10, 2012

Leonard "Lenny" Charles Weissberger died Wednesday October 10th 2012. Leonard (Lenny) was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, devoted member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church and a wonderful Christian went to be with his Lord on Wednesday evening, October 10, 2012, peacefully in his sleep after years of illnesses. He was feisty, funny and strong willed... but lovable too! Lenny loved life - He leaves, however, many to continue his work for the Lord, his sense of humor and love of life. Lenny and his wife, Carol Anne, were married 31 years, and how they loved each other. Others in his life were daughters Julie Kristin (Mederos) Burnet, married to Rich Burnet on August 3, 2012, and Diana Carol (Mederos) English, married to Shane English on October 11, 2012, five grandchildren, John Raymond, Tiffany, Anthony, Marco and Ginger Cutrone. He also says goodbye to sister, Esta Lupo, her whole family, favorite cousin, Lucile, and her whole family. Relatives and friends so precious to him - too many to name without leaving a name out - but I know he would especially say goodbye to Philadelphia United Methodist Church, Fort Mill, SC, staff, friends children, and adopted grandchildren at church, and to all friends at Stonecrest Villas, Tega Cay, SC. He is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Sharon Weissberger, as well as many loving friends here in South Carolina, New York and New Jersey. Moving from New Jersey to South Carolina about 13 years ago was a wonderful experience - wonderful weather, gentle Southern people, and wonderful friends were made. Lenny became active at Philadelphia United Methodist Church teaching Bible studies in his home and at the church. He enjoyed the United Methodist Men's Club where he attended meetings once a month - helped with the Strawberry Festival's pork chop sandwiches and corn, and just last weekend, he worked hard at the Barbeque Chicken Luncheon. He loved being like Grandpa Jones in Hee Haw, running the sound board on Sundays, and teasing everyone he saw. Lenny was an Army Man right to the end and proudly served our Country with honor. He was an instructor in CPR, EMT and on the First Aid Squad in Parsippany, NJ for years. Lenny also directed a multitude of emergency and disaster classes. He loved reading, learning daily, television - the Panthers and the New York Giants. His biggest hobby was to collect knifes and swords from all over the world, although he never travelled... Funeral services will be held at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, with Reverend Kevin Cooley, and Reverend David Shook from Shabbat Shalom serving at the Celebration of Len's Life. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday morning, October 13, 2012. The Celebration Memorial Service will be at 12:00 noon, followed by a Graveside Service. It was Lenny's wish for all gifts and remembrances to be placed in a Fund to help with the building of a new educational building at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, 1691 Highway 160 West, Fort Mill, SC 29708. On-line condolences to the family may be made at www.palmettofh.com. The family of Mr. Weissberger is being served by Palmetto Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Mill, SC.
