Rock Hill - Mr. Lewis Brently George, 53, of 1835 Reservation Road, died Thursday, December 27, 2012, in Scottdale, AZ.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Catawba Ward.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. George was born on September 7, 1959, and was a son of Annie Hefner George and the late Charles Lewis George. He was privileged to travel around the world with his family since his father was in the Navy. After graduating from Rock Hill High School, he served for two years in the Arizona Tempe Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He married Delores Gail Johnston in 1981 and they are the parents of Joshua (Kelly) of Paradise Valley, AZ, Rachel, Brently and Corri all of Rock Hill.
Lewis graduated from UNC Charlotte with a BS in Civil Engineering Technology and worked as Engineer for the Catawba Indian Nation, before leaving for a position with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Nashville, TN. He returned to be with his family and was most recently the director of ISWA Development Corporation. He was an avid supporter of the Catawba Indian Nation Scholarship program as he believed education to be one of the keys to a successful life.
Lewis spent the last few days of his life in Arizona. He was able to see his beloved grandchildren, Abby, Olivia, and James. Thankfully, he was able to visit some of the areas where he previously served his mission.
Lewis is survived by his mother, Annie Hefner George of Rock Hill: his brothers Tim (Linda) in Maryland, Kevin in Rock Hill, Chucky in Florida and Tracy in Charlotte. He is the uncle of many beloved nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at Whitesell Funeral Home.
