Lila Nanney Hamilton

September 27, 1922 — July 9, 2014

Lila Nanney Hamilton, 91, died July 9, 2014, at Agape' Hospice. Visitation will be Sunday, July 20 from 2:00 until 3:30pm at Oakland Baptist Church, 1067 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC. A Memorial service will follow at 4:00pm. Born in Rutherford County, NC, Mrs. Hamilton was the daughter of the late C.Y. and Zinnie S. Nanney. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Allen Hamilton to whom she was married more than 50 years and by her brother, C.Y. Nanney, Jr. She was a charter member of Oakland Baptist Church, serving actively in missions, as a deacon, and more than 60 years caring for children in the nursery. A particular joy was keeping in contact with many of their "adopted" Winthrop students. Mrs. Hamilton attended Mars Hill College, Appalachian State University, and was a proud Winthrop College graduate (1943). She retired after 35 years working in Celanese chemical lab and enjoyed world travels. Survivors include a niece, Jane Nanney Exner, and a number of special nieces and nephews by marriage. Memorials ma be made to Oakland Baptist Church Ministry Center Benevolent Fund or to the Agape' Senior Foundation, 1624 Main St, Columbia, SC 29201. Special thanks to friends and family as well as staff of Piedmont Medical Center, Agape' Assisted Living (York), and Agape' Post Acute Care Center/Hospice for care and encouragement provided these past several months.
