Linda Webster Poteat

Mrs. Linda Webster Poteat, 69, of Rock Hill passed away Friday, December 3, 2010 at her residence. A native of Cliffside, NC Mrs. Poteat was the daughter of the late Robert and Pauline Webster. Born on December 29, 1940 Mrs. Poteat was a retired school teacher from Rock Hill High School and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She graduated from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro in 1962 from there she went on to become a lab technician with North Carolina State University from 1962 to 1972. In 1977, she received her teaching certification from Winthrop University and eventually her master's degree in the early 1990's. Mrs. Poteat was an active member of the community having volunteered with the Museum of York County, the Clean and Green Board and her church. She was also scorekeeper for many years for the Winthrop University Basketball Team and the Rock Hill High School Basketball Team. Surviving are her loving husband Carl T. Poteat; two daughters Beth Poteat Blackmon (Jantzen) of Marietta, GA, Susan Jane Poteat (Rusty Corley) of Charleston, SC; and two grandchildren William Carpenter Blackmon and Wyatt Thomas Corley. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Poteat will be held Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2:00pm in Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Morris officiating. Interment will follow the service in Grandview Memorial Park - S. Cherry Rd. The family will receive friends from 3-5pm Sunday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in honor of Mrs. Poteat to Friendship United Methodist Church, 1200 Neeley Store Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
