Louis Arthur Thornton, 77, passed away December 20, 2022 at White Oak Nursing Home, Rock Hill SC. Lou was born January 28, 1945, raised in Westfield, MA and the surrounding communities.
Lou was an outdoor enthusiast. He was often found with a dog by his side and a camera in his hand. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. In his early years, his involvement with motorcycle trials fueled his interest in mechanics. He turned this interest into a career and became a gifted mechanic, machinist, and hydraulics expert.
In 1978, Lou moved to Monson MA with his former wife, Carol (Cooley), to raise their two children, Paul and Sarah (Gibson). In 2001, he moved to Kentucky where he lived for 18 years before moving to South Carolina.
He was the son of the late Louis A Thornton and Mary Rose (Renaud) Thornton of Westfield. He is survived by his siblings Elaine Carrington (Huntington), George (West Springfield), David (TN), and was preceded in death by Willis (Westfield), and Carolyn Pothier (Granville). In addition to his children, he is survived by his beloved granddaughters, Mackenzie Taylor and Madison Taylor, his son-in-law David Gibson, and several nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Cremation Services will be held in a private ceremony at Palmetto Funeral & Cremation. A Celebration of Life will be held in Massachusetts, details to follow.
