Lourdes Catalina Burns

Lourdes Catalina Burns passed away on November 4, 2024 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Lourdes was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba on February 13, 1950. After losing her mother at a young age, she relocated with her father, sister, and brother to the United States in 1961 due to the political situation in Cuba at the time. They eventually settled in Port Allen, LA, where she resided until she married her husband, tom. In 1971 Tom was in the Air Force and they followed his job until moving back to LA in 1974. She spent the next eight years in various jobs, until finally deciding to become a full time mom, raising two sons and managing the family while her husband completed his education. Upon graduation from LSU in 1986, the family relocated to Texas where they lived for the next 14 years, moving multiple times and adding a daughter to complete the family. Another move back to LA kept the family there until Tom's retirement in 2015. At the time, they followed their kids and grandkids to Fort Mill, SC. just outside of Charlotte where Lourdes worked on being the best grandmother "abuela" ever. And, succeeded, according to her grandkids. Lourdes was preceded in death by her parents Obdulio and Estella Garcia and her son Paul. She is survived by her husband Thomas Burns of Fort Mill, SC; her son, Peter Burns of Charlotte and his children Beaux Victoria and Thomas James; her daughter, Mary-Michael Burns Mull and her husband Matthew Mull of Charlotte and their children Asher Paul and Harris Williams; her sister Mary Bueno of Raleigh, NC; and her brother Albert Garcia of Lafayette, LA. She is also survived by countless cousins and life-long friends, too numerous to mention, that will miss her dearly and a very special cousin Eduardo Fernandez-Vila, of Santa Fe, NM. Services will be held Thursday November 7 at 11 am at St Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
