Luther Brooks

Rock Hill - Mr. Luther Brooks, 80, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at Whitesell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

A native of North Wilkesboro, NC Mr. Brooks was a son of the late Fred and Nancy Johnson Brooks. He was a faithful member of Oakwood Acres Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, the Sunday School Director, and Director of Training Union for many years. He made sure each week that the bulletins were done correctly and ready for Sunday morning. He also served in many other areas of the church.

Mr Brooks was employed by Carolina Medical Center for more than 40 years where he started as a Master Electrician and served as Assistant director of Maintenance until his retirement.

After his retirement, Luther was called back as a consultant and went back to work full-time for CMC as a project coordinator. He went on to receive the 2012 Pinnacle Award, the highest honor at CMC, which validated his extraordinary service.

Surviving are his wife, Everine Parsons Brooks; two sons, Michael Brooks and Bobby Brooks; two daughters, Betty Lou Genuardi and Barbara Barker; two brothers, Roy Brooks and Bill Brooks; five sisters, Lou Nichols, Betty Brown, Mae Dowell, Elizabeth Church and Grace Meade; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry Brooks, James Brooks and J.C. Brooks; a sister, Elsie Hawley and a grandson, Andy Brooks.
