Margaret ”Peggy” Ann Nicholson, 84, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away peacefully at home surrounding by her family May 20.

Peggy was born April 14th, 1937 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and raised in Buffalo, New York. She grew up in large, loving family of 10 sisters and 5 brothers. She was the 6th nurse in the family.

Peggy graduated high school at Mount St. Joseph High Academy for girls in 1955 in Kenmore, NY. She had compassion and devotion to take care of people. This was evident throughout her life. She earned her first degree in Education at Medaille College in Buffalo, NY. While attending college she became a nun at the Sisters of Saint Joseph Convent. She taught elementary school for six years. Later, she returned to Medaille to earn a Degree in Nursing. Her career working as a nurse began caring for the older nuns. In 1970, Peggy decided to turn in her habit and leave the Convent after 15 years of service. It was a hard decision for her, she dreamed of starting a family of her own and wanted to continue her compassion through nursing outside of the Convent.

Peggy then went on to work at one of the best ranked hospitals in the United States, the Cleveland Clinic. An outstanding accomplishment of her career was when she open the first Open Heart Unit at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio in the 70s. While leaving her left mark there, she went on to become Nurse Supervisor at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, OH. She ended her nursing career where she began, taking care of nuns at the Sisters of Norte Dame care facility in Toledo, Ohio.

Peggy met her loving husband, Thomas Nicholson while they were both taking their dogs for a stroll. They wed on February 21st, 1976. They lived in Sylvania, Ohio where Peggy and Tom loved and raised their two children; John and Molly, whom they loved dearly. They also shared their loving family with six foster children.

Peggy had many hobbies and interests. She loved sports, especially her Buffalo Bills and Ohio State Buckeyes. She played basketball in high school and coached sports teams for her son and daughter. She loved baking her famous buckeyes and hard rock candy at Christmas time. And she loved cooking her egg, cheese and sausage casserole whenever she had the request, often around family events and Christmas time. She loved spending time with friends and family, especially her two grandchildren, Ian and Max. She loved skiing, traveling, reading, crosswords puzzles, playing Bridge, hosting dinners, 4th of July’s family gatherings, and sitting on the front lawn on Rockdale Lane with her neighbors sipping her famous spearmint iced tea.

Peggy was dearly loved by everyone that knew her and she had an unlimited capacity to love everyone that came into her life.  She will be sorely missed on this earth but Heaven has gained a wonderful angel.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Nicholson. She is survived by her son John (Fiorella) Nicholson, daughter, Molly (Daniel) Koehler, her grandsons; Ian and Max, her sisters; Bette (late John) Urquhart, Karen (Jerry) Wydra, Carolyn (Baber) Rathur, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many cousins by the dozens.
