Margaret "Peg" Ann (Gardner) Kieffer

June 24, 1943 — February 1, 2021

Margaret “Peg” Ann Gardner Kieffer passed away surrounded by her family on February 1, 2021 at the age of 77, after a brief, but devastating battle with cancer. Born in Kansas City, MO, on June 24, 1943, she was chosen through adoption by her parents, Russell Gardner and Nellie Oberlin, and proudly raised in Massillon, OH. Peg lived many places throughout her life, including: Cleveland; Cincinnati; Nashville; Connecticut; Atlanta; Long Island; Ontario, Canada; Hayesville, NC; and finally Indian Land, SC.

Peg was a retired registered nurse, having completed her nurses training at Saint Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH, followed by a BSN from Saint Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, most recently Belair United Methodist (Indian Land, SC). As a member of the UMC, she enjoyed playing in the bell choir, playing piano, and was President of the United Methodist Women’s group. She loved playing bridge with her neighbors and friends and volunteering for various local organizations like Meals On Wheels and The Red Cross. Above all else, Peg was an adventurous traveller who enjoyed cooking, reading, playing trivia, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband and best friend of 52 years William “Bill” George Kieffer, along with her infant daughter Heather Leigh Kieffer.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three sons Marc Russell Kieffer (LeAnne) of Charlotte, NC; David William Kieffer (Sarah) of Dallas, GA; James Gardner Kieffer (Kristieanna) of College Point, NY. She was also a beloved “Omi” to grandchildren Rowan, Rhys, Noel, Elloree, and Dex.

There will be a memorial service for Peg on Saturday, February 13 at 4 pm. The in-person service will be a private gathering of family, however it will be streamed to the Belair UMC Facebook page and archived for later viewing.
