Marion Jackie "M.J." Robinson Sr.

April 13, 1933 — November 1, 2014

Marion Jackie (MJ) Robinson, Sr., 81, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, November 1, 2014 following an extended illness. Born and raised in Catawba, South Carolina (Landsford Community), Mr. Robinson was the last surviving son of the late Otis and Clara Robinson, Sr. and preceded in death by his four brothers, Otis Robinson, Jr., James B. Robinson, Johnny Robinson and Roosevelt Robinson; and survived by two sisters Mamie Lee Matthews and Claretta Davis. He leaves his loving wife of 61 years, Geraldine (Howze) Robinson; two sons, Marion J. Robinson, Jr. and Ernest Robinson; six daughters, Joann (Bernard) Alexander, Marcelle (Craig) Caldwell, Patricia (Edward) Newton, Glenda (Franklin) Dickerson, Kathleen Lytle and Sandra Daise; twenty grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. MJ was a dominant figure in the Flint Hill community as the owner of Robinson Grocery. He and his wife, Geraldine, operated the family business for 25 years before retiring in 1995. A service to celebrate Mr. Robinson's life will be held at 11am Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Flint Hill Baptist Church, 1214 Flint Hill Street, Rock Hill, with Reverend Paul Long officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home.
