Martha Blanton

May 19, 1942 — November 17, 2024

Fort Mill, SC

Martha Blanton, 82, beloved Maw Maw, mother, and friend entered into eternal rest on November 17th surrounded by her loved ones. She was a beacon of love and compassion whose complete selflessness touched everyone who knew her. She had a boundless capacity to love and gave more of herself than seemed possible.

Born to Chester and Maude Barnette in Dayton Ohio on May 19, 1942, Martha was full of life. She was the youngest of five siblings and lived most of her childhood in The Children’s Home of Winston Salem, an experience that deeply shaped her life. Those early years instilled in her a profound empathy and unwavering desire to make every person who crossed her path feel at home and always welcome.

After attending Brevard College, her life took a surprising turn one day when she was pulled over for speeding by a young Charlotte police officer. What could have been an ordinary encounter became extraordinary when she met the love of her life Charles Blanton. Charlie and Martha started their family and settled in Fort Mill, South Carolina to raise their 3 children. Martha’s professional journey began as a customs broker for HiPage where she made lasting friendships. Later in life, she partnered with her beloved husband to deliver freight across the country. Together, they turned work into an adventure maximizing their time on the road and cherishing every moment together.

Known for her exceptional baking, her pound cakes and strawberry cakes were nothing short of legendary, symbols of care she poured into her family and friends. Her kitchen was the heart of her home where Sunday gatherings for her spaghetti and countless celebrations were held.

Martha’s faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life and one she shared deeply with Charlie. Her church family was an extension of her own as she served others with humility and grace.  Her daily actions spoke of her unwavering commitment to serving God. She delighted in bringing people together, making sure all felt the love of Christ through her actions.

She is survived by her children- Tracy Rehlander (Jeff), Bergen Blanton (Kathy), Ginger Freeman; grandchildren-Ryan Blanton, Stephanie Kwon (Tony), Whitney Moore (Matt), Michael Pettus (Elaina), Brodie Freeman (Corbin), Sidney Faulkenberry (Corley), Mandy Muller (Joseph), Emily Kalman (Ross), Ally Fogle (Brett) and great-grandchildren Lucas, Vivian and Pierce Kwon, Nathan and Hailey Moore, Jackson, Dean, and Marlee Pettus, Parker, Norah, and Kellen Muller, Palmer and Briggs Kalman, Sophia, Caden, and Emmy Fogle, and Layla Collins.
